A studio of one, on purpose

Benjy King is a copy studio run the way a good sentence is written: nothing wasted, nothing hidden. After a decade inside agencies watching words become a commodity — junior writers rotating through accounts, tone-of-voice decks shelved before the launch shipped — Benjy went independent in 2014 with a simple position: brands that refuse to sound like everyone else deserve a writer who knows their name without checking a brief. Every engagement since has been led personally, from the first workshop to the final proof.

What we make

The studio builds verbal identity: the naming, messaging architecture, manifesto, and editorial systems that let a brand speak consistently without a copywriter in the room. Engagements range from a one-page manifesto that reframes a category to a 200-touch content system covering site, product, onboarding, sales, and support. The work is unglamorous and rigorous — interviews, positioning debates, drafts that die on the whiteboard — because words that survive that process are words a company can actually use.

How engagements run

Projects begin with a voice audit and stakeholder interviews, move through positioning and voice definition, and end with guidelines written for humans: examples, anti-examples, and rules your team can apply without a linguistics degree. Capacity is deliberately limited to a handful of clients a year, and there are no junior hand-offs, no account-team rotation, and no AI-filler paragraphs.

  • Verbal identity from one-page manifesto to 200-touch content system
  • Every engagement personally led since 2014 — no junior hand-offs
  • Guidelines written with examples and anti-examples your team can apply
